Hi, I’m Ted. I am a New York City headshot and portrait photographer. My chief aim is to capture the energy and unique qualities of actors in a single 8×10 headshot. And I love what I do! A steady and thriving acting/performing career can seem unattainable and daunting. The majority of a career for most professional actors is auditioning. Booking jobs comes and goes, a day, a couple of months or a few years. There is no real certainty to the profession.
To combat this I provide certainty in one specific part of your career. Headshots. Your calling card. The headshot process can be awkward, brushed off as not that important, and incredibly expensive, but it is an essential part of booking work consistantly as an actor.
Let’s be real, headshots are weird. Looking into a camera and being your best self in the moment can be awkward. That’s way it’s important to have a professional behind the camera that knows exactly what they are doing, so you can relax and be yourself. “Oh, but my friend who I know and love has a nice camera, they can do it!” Your friend with the nice camera may get a good picture, but they don’t know how to communicate with you capture that headshot that has that special sauce. Your headshot doesn’t just represent you visually, it represents you professionally, artistically, and energetically. A professional headshot photographer will take great photographs and be focused on capturing your confident personality and individual style.
“But it’s so darn expensive!” Yes, good professional headshot photographers can be more expensive than your friend with a nice camera or the free/$100 craigslist photographer. But how important is booking the job to you? Is it important enough to skip the night out and save $30 – $50 a week to your headshot fund? What if a new pair of professional shots can catapult you into your dream job on Broadway or Mr. Robot?
